Wyetots

Activities

Text Box:
Wyetots has a range of activities to do with the emphasis on fun. I believe learning should be fun whether it is cooking, gardening, art or dressing up. Activities like these encourage children’s senses as well as learning to share, concentrate, help each other and discover.
My equipment includes - Painting, play dough, books, games, jigsaws, happy village, lego, duplo, farmyard, dressing up box, dolls and much more.
I love to cook and enjoy group cookery sessions baking cakes, making bread and pasta and encouraging the children to help prepare the lunch as well as set the table and clearing away. I find that all children love to cook because it is messy play with a yummy end result! They love using scales, counting out ingredients, mixing, stirring and whisking which uses maths and science, smell and feel without them even knowing it!
Our vegetable patch is becoming established, with potatoes, carrots, lettuces etc as well as having apple, pear plum and cherry trees. I aim for us to prepare the patch for new vegetables according to the seasons and dig or pick our hard work to either have for lunch or to take home.
The safe enclosed garden overlooking miles of countryside has play equipment such as a TP climbing frame, playcube, water and sand tray, trikes, scooters, bikes, prams, boules, baby swing and I am adding to it regularly.

I promote outside activities as much as possible without encroaching on routine. We regularly go to both the parks in Ross on Wye, visit Beechenhurst to go on the sculpture trail and play, take the bikes or scooters to the Biblins and have picnics as often as the weather will allow us.
I am a member of the NCMA and local childminding support group which has a fantastic childrens centre and toy library. I also go to Jumpstart and library sessions as well as the local toddler group in my village. I have an off road pushchair for muddy footpath walks and nature trails on the Wye Valley Walk.
We have our structured play or craft depending on the season, event or festival. We will do Chinese New Year crafts for example and then maybe cook using Chinese ingredients and utensils!! We also make seasonal or occasion crafts including Mother and Fathers day, Grandparents day to name a few.
I like to take the children on trips to markets, the small breed centre in Much Marcle as well as watching local press for events.
I appreciate that more often than not children are tired after school or playgroup and we have a variety of DVDs, books and a computer for quiet time.
